American Romanticism

Rip Van Winkle:

I read Rip Van Winkle and what I saw was romantic about it was How he drank liquor with mythical creatures and fell asleep for 20 years, but when he woke up his and went back to the village everyone from back then remembered him once he told his story. What I though about this story was anyone can't read it and just like it an order to like this type of story you have to be able to use your imagination when you're reading it, that's what makes it a romantic story and the fact that when he found out that this girl was his daughter then it says "He caught his daughter and her child in his arms. “I am your father!” cried he—“Young Rip Van Winkle once—
old Rip Van Winkle now!" By this you know it is a romantic.

Thanatopsis:

First of all, Romanticism focuses on a couple of things that other poems don't like using your imagination. In this poem you have to imagine mother earth speaking to you and telling you things will turn out okay. Romanticism also focuses on the love of nature. This poem talks about how great nature and beautiful nature is and how when you die you will be at peace and death is not anything to fear, in the last stanza it says "By unfaltering trust, approach thy grave Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch About him, and lie down to pleasant dreams." What that is basically saying is don't worry about dying, don't fear it, go to death like your laying down to take a nap and having sweet dreams. Bryant believed once you passed away you were as equal as a king or queen. He talks about not worrying about approaching a dungeon like a slave, approach it as if you were going to be at peace.

The Ropewalk:

This poem is a good example of Romanticism because you have to really use your imagination to know what it's talking about, it also uses beauty of nature. This poem is about a guy that works in a rope factory and gets bored with his job so he imagines all of the many ways people could use the rope that he makes everyday like girls swinging and a woman using a rope to lure a bucket into a well, or a small boy on a breezy day flying a kite with a rope. This poem uses different examples of ways people that buy his rope use it everyday in each stanza.

Romantic Painting:

The painting is romantic because it shows the great beauty of nature using a sunset and how the colors all evenly collide together and how the land is reflected in the water. It's also a good romantic painting because it gets you thinking and using your imagination to try to figure out whats going on and what its like on that land in this type of painting I could see myself just chilling under the tree by the water enjoying the sunset.

My example of a romantic painting:

When I look at my example of romanticism painting above I think of it as a romantic painting because it also shows the beauty of nature and makes you use your imagination to think about what is going on in the picture. This picture shows beauty of nature because you can see a beautiful sunset and it sort of looks like a beach with mountains around it. When I look at this paining I imagine what it would feel like to have a breeze on my face looking over the ocean and at the colors of the sunset.
